The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities to help scholars achieve their personal and professional goals.

Key Benefits

Full Financial Support:

The scholarship covers all tuition and fees for the full duration of the eligible master’s or professional program at McGill University.

Additionally, scholars receive a living stipend of CAD 2,300 per month during academic terms to cover living expenses. A one-time relocation grant is also provided to assist with moving to Montréal.

Leadership Development:

Scholars participate in an interdisciplinary leadership program that includes bi-weekly seminars, annual summer retreats, and workshops designed to enhance their leadership skills and broaden their perspectives.

The program emphasizes learning from peers with diverse backgrounds and academic paths.

Mentorship and Community:

Each scholar is matched with an experienced mentor, a professional coach, and advisors who provide guidance, challenge them to reach their goals, and introduce them to broader networks.

Scholars also become part of a vibrant community hub at the McCall MacBain House, located at the entrance of McGill’s downtown campus, which serves as a space for scholars to gather, study, learn, and collaborate.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the McCall MacBain Scholarship in 2025 (for programs commencing in Summer/Fall 2026), applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be a current student on track to earn their first bachelor’s degree by August 2026.
  • Have earned their first bachelor’s degree in the last five years (January 2020 or later).
  • Have earned their first bachelor’s degree more than five years ago and be 30 years old or younger as of January 1, 2025.
  • Applicants must also meet the minimum degree and language requirements for their chosen McGill graduate program.

Eligible Programs

The scholarship supports full-time master’s or second-entry professional undergraduate programs at McGill University that consist of 45 credits or more and are primarily based on McGill’s downtown or Macdonald campuses. Eligible degrees include, but are not limited to:

  • Master of Arts (MA)
  • Master of Architecture (MArch)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Education (MEd)
  • Master of Engineering (MEng)
  • Master of Science (MSc)
  • Bachelor of Civil Law/Juris Doctor (BCL/JD)
  • Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery (MDCM)

Graduate certificates, executive master’s programs (e.g., EMBA), PhDs, part-time programs, and joint degree programs are not covered by the scholarship.

  • Application Period: Applications for the 2026 cohort open in June 2025. Students and graduates of Canadian and U.S. universities, as well as Canadians abroad, must apply by September 25, 2025. All other applicants must apply by August 21, 2025.
  • Online Application: Applicants must complete an online application form, which includes providing personal information, academic history, and details of leadership and community involvement. Two reference forms are required: one academic reference and one community reference.
  • University Endorsement: Current students and recent graduates (those who graduated in 2023, 2024, or 2025) must be endorsed by their university. Alumni who graduated in 2022 or earlier do not require a university endorsement.
  • Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to regional interviews between October and December 2025. Successful candidates from the regional interviews will proceed to final interviews in March 2026 in Montréal.
  • McGill Program Application: Applicants must apply separately to their desired McGill graduate program(s) by the program’s deadline or in December 2025 at the latest if selected for final interviews.

Additional Awards

In addition to the McCall MacBain Scholarships, the program offers other awards to recognize outstanding candidates:

Finalist Awards: Candidates who participate in final interviews but are not selected as McCall MacBain Scholars are eligible to receive a one-time Finalist Award.

The Finalist Award for Canadian applicants is $10,000, and for international applicants, it is $20,000. The award may.
